A Happy Ending To A Medical Emergency On Silver Shadow, Courtesy of the U.S. Coast Guard

Late Monday night the U.S. Coast Guard received an urgent request to medevac a 27-year-old woman from Silversea Cruises' Silver Shadow.

Silver Shadow departed from San Francisco Monday afternoon and was en route to Ketchikan, Alaska when it called the Coast Guard at approximately 11 pm. The Coast Guard initially launched a 47-foot motor lifeboat from Station Golden Gate. However, on scene conditions required a helicopter, so a rescue helicopter crew from Air Station San Francisco was launched to complete the medevac, which was conducted approximately 50 miles west of Point Reyes, California.

The patient was taken to the Coast Guard air station, where she was then transferred to a waiting ambulance and taken to Mills-Peninsula Health Services Hospital. She is awaiting surgery. We wish her a speedy recovery and tip our hats to the men and women of Coast Guard Station Golden Gate and Air Station San Francisco.
