Holland America Line Launches A New Look for Mariner Magazine

Exclusive Benefit of Rewards Program for Past Guests

Holland America Line debuts a new look and format for its loyalty magazine directed at members of its Mariner Society, guests who have sailed one or more times with the premium cruise line. Titled Mariner, the newly redesigned 64-page magazine presents a sophisticated, eye-catching design and offers fascinating editorial features by celebrated writers, superb photography and informative regular sections.

“Holland America Line is proud to launch this exciting new lifestyle look for our magazine as one more benefit to our Mariner Society members,” said Richard D. Meadows, CTC, executive vice president, marketing, sales and guest programs. “We consistently strive to reward loyal guests with great benefits. As a result, Holland America has one of the highest repeat guest ratios in the cruise industry.”

The premiere issue features “Writing the Book on Venice” with short vignettes by Erica Jong, Anne Rice, Francine Prose, Kenneth Turan and John Berendt on favorite books and movies, restaurants and experiences from Venice. Other highlights include features on Jamaica and Hawaii, the courageous cliff divers in Mazatlan and a freewheeling conversation between a veteran Alaska guidebook writer and a top wildlife photographer.

Each four-color issue of Mariner also contains featured sections including “Onboard,” which highlights what’s new on Holland America ships; “Ports of Call,” which profiles select ports and shore excursions; “Mariner Values,” which details special cruise opportunities for past guests; and “Now Voyager,” a short destination article written by travel journalists and found on the last page.
The Mariner magazine is just one benefit of the new Mariner Society Rewards Program Holland America Line launched last fall. The program provides past guests with exciting rewards that range from generous onboard discounts while sailing and special rates on select cruises to reduced or free third and fourth rates when booking future cruises. All guests who sail with Holland America Line are automatically welcomed into the Mariner Society.

The Mariner Society Rewards Program offers a four-level progressive membership ranging from Star Mariner to Four-Star Mariner based on a guest’s cruise history. Guests automatically collect additional “cruise days” or cruise day credits based on their onboard spending or through the purchase of one of the premium line’s suite options.
