Dine Aboard Nieuw Amsterdam

Variety is the spice of life and here aboard Nieuw Amsterdam the dining options are certainly varied. Naturally there is the Manhattan Dining Room and Lido Restaurant, but the feast doesn’t stop there.

Long a staple on Holland America Line ships, the Pinnacle Grill on Nieuw Amsterdam now offers new options in specialty dining—one evening during our cruise the Master Chef’s Table was set to include an exclusive dining experience of seven courses accompanied by specially selected wine pairings by the ship’s sommelier ($89). Another night’s highlight in the Pinnacle Grill was a menu of dishes featured in midtown Manhattan’s famous Le Cirque Restaurant ($39 for dinner, an additional $20 for a glass of sparkling wine and two glasses of the Le Cirque recommended vintages). Dinner from the Pinnacle Grill’s own menu is $20 and lunch is $10.

Introduced aboard Signature-class sister ship Eurodam, and also featured on Nieuw Amsterdam, are Tamarind, serving Asian cuisine that emphasizes nature’s basic elements of water, wood, fire, and earth ($15 dinner, no charge for lunch) and Canaletto, the complimentary Italian bistro that is tucked into a corner of the Lido (that’s the delightful Canaletto place setting and menu pictured above). One unique—and fun to eat—change we noticed in Canaletto is a palate refresher served after the main course and before coffee and dessert—lemony cotton candy .

Not only is specialty dining on Nieuw Amsterdam special, it’s also a good value. Bon appetit!
