Hurricane Irene And Your Cruise

Forecasters now prodict that Hurricane Irene is on track to strike the southeastern United States later this week as a major hurricane. Residents along Florida's east coast and northward into the Carolinas are being urged to make preparations.

What should you be doing if you have a cruise scheduled while Irene is churning about?

As luck will have it, your major concern should be your embarkation port. While a hurricane barrels down on your destination city, flights in and out are certain to be delayed or, worst case scenario, cancelled by an airport closing.

But, let's not worry about that. Assume you made it to the ship and have sailed. What can you expect? Cruise Diva has that information covered for you in Cruising Into Hurricane Season. Also on the Cruise Diva web site, our friend Karen Segboer relates the experience aboard Holland America Line's ms Ryndam during Hurricane Paula in Course Correction, or being diverted on your cruise(s).
