“Divas” on Carnival Breeze |
The high-tech production shows in the Ovation Theater combine live performances with LED staging and special effects, but it’s the talented artists who sing and dance that set it apart as fresh and new. Four revues are currently offered on Carnival Cruise Lines ships–“Divas,” “Latin Nights,” “The Brits!” and “Motor City.” Our 8-night Carnival Breeze sailing features the first three, each highlighting popular and memorable music of a particular genre or era.
“Divas” is a mix of music, fashion, and dance that features popular contemporary female artists we know by a single name, such as Barbra, Beyonce, Celine, Cher, Madonna, and Whitney, closing the show with a personal favorite—Whitney Houston’s “Queen of the Night.” The passionate Latin culture comes alive in “Latin Nights” through the fusion of music made popular by Gloria Estefan, Enrique Iglesias, Jennifer Lopez, Santana, and Shakira. “The Brits!” is a musical tribute to the British invasion featuring a mix of live action and animation and songs by The Beatles, The Who, Herman’s Hermits and Elton John. It certainly brings back memories.
Sadly we didn’t see “Motor City” during our cruise, which surely would have been my favorite with the R&B soul sounds of the 1960s and ‘70s, including hits from the Commodores, Lionel Richie, Martha and the Vandellas, Marvin Gaye, The Supremes, and Stevie Wonder. No problem, though—we can always head to Carnival Breeze’s Ocean Plaza where the Cool Breeze Band has been entertaining us in the evening with many of our Motown favorites to dance to, or to Piano Bar 88 to request the oldies we love and sing along. By the way, the Piano Bar 88 serves the best Martinis on board.
