“Our discerning guests share our passion for exploring the world and learning more about the people, the culture and the food of the more than 300 ports of call we visit a year,” said Randall Soy, the line’s executive vice president. “The new blog and our enhanced social media efforts on Facebook and Twitter will provide guests with fascinating and useful information about the ports they will visit and give them a more intimate experience with cultures and customs of the world.”
As part of this effort, the line has appointed of Mara Papatheodorou as its special contributing editor. Papatheodorou, a taste and traditions expert, will provide a regular blog feature called Sail, Sip & Savor. A former editor at Bon Appétit magazine who oversaw the magazine’s international and entertaining stories, Papatheodorou will explore the history of cuisine and culture in popular ports of call and will also provide suggestions on where to dine locally and shop for special ingredients and other products unique to the region.
From Papatheodorou's extensive travels with a culinary perspective, she knows it is all there for the tasting whether it is limoncello in Capri, pizza in Naples, herbs in Provence, honey in Greece, whiskey in Scotland, paella in Valencia or gelato in Florence. As Papatheodorou says, "the joy of travel mixed with the intrigue of ingredients of a country’s culture and cuisine is a delicious and unforgettable combination."
Other regular blog features include More to Explore, an inside look at the best tours and excursions for every destination, and Insider, a behind-the-scenes look at the line from executives, staff and crew as well as special announcements on topics relevant to travelers.
