‘Towel Animal Zoo’ A Big Hit Aboard Carnival Sunshine

No, those aren't personal items placed on pool loungers by “chair hogs” who got up early to “save” a poolside spot for themselves to use later. What you are seeing is a “towel animal zoo” with 206 different terrycloth creations situated on deck chairs surrounding Carnival Sunshine’s main pool on Lido Deck.

Ten stateroom stewards got up extra early one morning and spent more than three hours each folding the towels into ducks, swans, elephants, turtles, and other creatures to surprise the guests onboard for a Mediterranean cruise.

Expanding upon Carnival’s signature “towel animals” that greet guests as they return to their staterooms each evening, the “towel animal zoo” was a huge hit with Carnival Sunshine guests, many of whom were seen snapping photos to send to their friends and family members back home.

Carnival Sunshine, which underwent a massive $155 million makeover earlier this year, entered service in Europe on May 5th and is operating a series of 9- and 12-day Mediterranean cruises through October before it repositions to its temporary New Orleans homeport for a series of 7-day Caribbean cruises beginning in November. In April 2014 Carnival Sunshine will relocate to Port Canaveral where it is scheduled to operate year-round voyages that include port-intensive 7-day cruises to the eastern and western Caribbean, a number of 8-day Caribbean cruises, and 5-day departures featuring Florida, Caribbean, and Bahamian ports.
