Norwegian Getaway Maiden Voyage Postponed

Maiden voyages area big deal and some avid cruise fans take being the first passengers to experience a new ship very seriously. Last year we reported that Norwegian Getaway, currently under construction, would be delivered earlier than expected and arrive early in its Miami homeport after inaugural events in Europe. Norwegian Getaway was expected to then debut in Miami in late January 2014 and begin her first Eastern Caribbean sailing on Saturday, February 1, 2014.

For passengers who booked the the transatlantic crossing to position the ship in Miami, plus those looking forward to the maiden sailing from Miami, things have changed. We have received word that Norwegian Getaway has been chartered by a private company for accommodations and events surrounding the 2014 Super Bowl. Instead of a 16-night transatlantic voyage in January from Rotterdam to sunny Miami, the ship will depart Southampton on January 16, 2014 for a 10-day crossing and head for chilly New York.

The National Football League is scheduled to play the 48th Super Bowl on On February 2, 2014 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. Norwegian Getaway's charter runs from January 29 to February 5, 2014, after which she will head for Miami and make her maiden sailing on February 8.
