Where in the World is Disney Magic?

When an overhaul of its atrium, restaurants, bars, spa, accommodations, and (most importantly) children's areas was complete, Disney Cruise Line's Disney Magic was set to return to service yesterday with a 5-night cruise from Miami. That was the plan. Unfortunately, that triumphant return has been postponed until October 25th due to Mother Nature.

Unexpectedly delaying the completion of the ship's major transformation was bad weather—not only in Cadiz, Spain, where Disney Magic was in dry dock, but also at sea where work was to continue. However, it is expected to be finished by the time of its rescheduled Miami arrival.

While we feel the disappointment of passengers booked on the canceled sailing, all is not lost. They will receive a full fare refund, as well as be reimbursed for any airline change fees they might incur, plus Disney will give them a free cruise on any 5-night Bahamas or Caribbean sailing aboard Disney Magic between October 25 and May 16, 2014. Any passengers who who are unable to reschedule their Disney cruise vacation before May 16, will receive a 35 percent discount on a future Bahamas or Caribbean cruise taken on any Disney ship within two years (with the exception of holiday sailings).

  1. The Disney ships are the most seaworthy of the current crop of overstuffed motorized barges that the cruise industry touts as cruise ships.

If they can't go to sea due to otherwise normal ocean conditions, what hope is there for the behemoths that resemble ships only in that they have a somewhat pointed front end?
