Official grand opening ceremonies for the Puerta Maya Cruise Center in Cozumel, Mexico, operated by Carnival Corporation, encompassed a variety of festivities over the two-day period Oct. 21-22.
The events were presided over by Francine Cousteau, president of the Cousteau Society and widow of pioneering undersea explorer Jacques Cousteau. During the activities, Cousteau served as 'godmother' to a new artificial reef off the coast of Cozumel named Lol-Ha, which was created from 56,000 tons of salvaged concrete piling taken from Puerta Maya’s original pier that was destroyed by Hurricane Wilma in 2005. Cousteau is pictured just off the reef location in the above photo.
