How Princess Cruises Built a Rose Parade Float

Many years ago Cruise Diva and a group of friends spent New Year’s Eve in Pasadena, California huddled under blankets alongside Colorado Boulevard in order to have a prime viewing spot at the Rose Parade. In years prior and subsequent to that first hand view of the most spectacular parade I’ve ever seen close up, I’ve gotten up early on January 1st to watch it more comfortably on television. The Rose Parade has been a tradition since 1890 and is broadcast to approximately 80 million viewers around the world every New Year’s Day. Trust me, my sofa is more comfy than the curb I slept on so many years ago!

This coming January 1st, I’ll be watching closely for the float created by Princess Cruises, which is 60 feet long and 24 feet high, and will be covered by more than 24,000 flowers and natural materials. Depicting the line’s newest ship Regal Princess symbolically sailing through some of the world’s most fascinating destinations and iconic landmarks, the float pays tribute to The Love Boat television show that made Princess Cruises one of the most famous names in cruising.
