Before arriving at our final port of Nassau, The Malt Shop Memories Cruise had a lot on tap—Sports Trivia, a presentation about the cars of yesteryear, and an interview session with ‘The Ladies of Rock and Roll’ featuring Lesley Gore and The Crystals. Before that got underway, Mel got a shot of the ladies in the ‘Green Room’ staging area in Eurodam’s Crow’s Nest (at right).
While they were discussing the music of yesterday and today, our host and extraordinary Malt Shop Cruise Director, Dane Butcher asked the ladies what they thought of current popular music. DeeDee, the remaining member of the original Crystals, said today’s music has no recognizable ‘signature’ melody such as the songs we all remember from the Malt Shop era. Everyone agreed.
That signature was obvious when we made our way later to the Lido Deck Pool Party where The Happenings (below) were performing—and the best seats for the show were in the hot tubs. Who wouldn’t recognize the opening notes of Go Away Little Girl, which was a hit for the group written by Carole King, and the refrain I Love You More Today Than Yesterday?
We’ll all still love the music tomorrow and be singing along for (hopefully) many years to come at home and on future Malt Shop Memories Cruises.
Stay tuned, there is another show tonight starring Little Anthony & The Imperials and more stories to share in the days to come.
