So Many Cruise Ships, So Little Room

With Hurricane Rina (now downgraded to tropical storm status)causing port cancellations and itinerary changes in the Western Caribbean yesterday, Nassau, Bahamas experienced its busiest port day ever.

Seven—yes, count 'em!—seven cruise ships tied up in Nassau Wednesday, Oct 26, and The Nassau Guardian reports that 25,000 passengers streamed ashore. In order to accommodate so many ships (three were unexpected diversions), space was created at the piers by using special structures placed 300 feet out into the water.
