Latest Video Shows Carnival Sunshine Taking Shape

The latest in a series of videos documenting the transformation of Carnival Destiny into Carnival Sunshine highlights the completion of the demolition phase of the dry dock and focuses on the initial build-out of the ship’s many dining, bar, and entertainment features.

The video also showcases the new Sunshine Atrium, which is being completely renovated with a stylish new décor, as well as the Serenity adults-only retreat that will span three decks and feature a pool, waterfall, colorful oversized umbrellas, and more. Construction of the Serenity area is so complex that it involves positioning pre-fabricated decks onto the ship via crane. Other spaces such as Ocean Plaza, a stunning café and live entertainment venue, along with top-deck watering holes like the RedFrog Rum Bar are also beginning to take shape.

More than 3,000 shipboard employees and contractors are working 24/7 to complete the unprecedented $155 million renovation, which is part of the line’s groundbreaking Fun Ship 2.0 product enhancement initiative.

Carnival Sunshine is set to debut May 5 with a summer schedule of 9- and 12-day Mediterranean voyages from Barcelona and Venice followed by a trans-Atlantic crossing from Barcelona to New Orleans, positioning the vessel for year-round 7-day Caribbean cruises from the Big Easy this fall.

On the pool deck, the marquee revamp is the addition of Carnival's first three-deck Serenity space, an adults-only retreat. The space, pictured left, will feature a cascading waterfall that makes it more beautiful . Isn't it
