Oceania Cancels Portions of World Cruise

On December 11th Oceania Cruises' Insignia experienced an engine room fire while docked in St. Lucia during a 10-day cruise that began in San Juan, Puerto Rico four days earlier, resulting in the termination of the remainder of the voyage. With the ship out of service, a subsequent 14-day holiday sailing was also cancelled. The cruise line now anticipates repairs to take approximately nine weeks.

Due to the length of time anticipated to complete the repairs, the first three legs of Insignia's Around the World in 180 Days cruise, which was scheduled to depart Miami on January 10, 2015, has been cancelled as well. The modified world cruise is now scheduled to depart from Singapore on March 22, 2015 and follow the remainder of the scheduled itinerary.

Passengers holding world cruise reservations are receiving a prorated refund for the canceled segments of the voyage and a future cruise credit of 25% of the amount refunded. Those who chose to cancel received a complete refund and a future cruise credit equal to 25% of the value of the three cancelled segments. Passengers who opt to embark in Singapore to sail on the balance of the cruise will be provided complementary business class air fare to join the ship as well as a one-night pre-cruise hotel stay.
