Hurricane Irene Statement From Princess Cruises

Princess Cruises is closely monitoring Hurricane Irene as it continues to develop. At this time, based on the forecast from the National Hurricane Center, we do not expect it to directly impact the itinerary of Caribbean Princess, including the ship's scheduled New York departure on Saturday, August 27.

We will take whatever actions are needed to avoid the effects of Hurricane Irene as the safety of our passengers, crew, and ships is always our first priority. Passengers will be advised if any changes are required.

When a hurricane is approaching, the safest place for a ship is at sea.

I hear what you are saying Cruse Diva. So let the ship stay at sea and cancel the departure scheduled for Tomorrow.

Let's be clear. The Aug 27th 7 Day Princess New England Canada did not arrive or leave port yet. The ship did not sail and that embarkation scheduled for Saturday Aug 27th will be under Level III Hurricane where the city is shutting down long before departure. For the safety of all passengers preparing for the journey the Princess sailing for Aug 27th should be canceled. Plain and simple it is not safe for passengers to get to the ship never mind letting the ship leave port.

Here's the latest from Princess Cruises:

Hurricane Irene Update--Caribbean Princess August 27 departure from New York/Brooklyn Cruise Terminal

To minimize the effects of Hurricane Irene on Caribbean Princess' departure from New York on Saturday, August 27, the ship's arrival time in New York has been moved up one hour earlier to 6 a.m. that morning.

Cruise check-in will now begin at 10 a.m. and not 1 p.m. as originally scheduled. Passengers are currently being contacted and advised to arrive at the cruise terminal as early as possible.

For passengers planning to drive to the port and park at the pier, we have been advised that the parking area at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal will most likely be closed due to anticipated flooding. It is recommend that passengers instead make arrangements to be dropped off at the cruise terminal. Please note that Princess Cruises cannot be held responsible for any damages to vehicles parked at the pier.

We are continuing to monitor the path of the storm and will alter the ship's itinerary if necessary. Passengers will be kept fully advised of any changes required.
