the coins
Luxury line Silversea Cruises celebrated the milestone keel-laying ceremony of its newest ship, Silver Muse, at the Fincantieri shipyard in Genoa, Italy last Thursday. Attended by Silversea CEO Enzo Visone and Fincantieri shipyard director Raffaele Davassi, the ceremony is a long-standing maritime tradition celebrating the start of a ship's construction. The action of welding a coin into the keel of the ship is said to bring good luck during the build and to the captain and crew during her later life. Silversea has taken this one step further by welding eight coins into the keel of Silver Muse. Each coin represents one of the seven continents that Silversea ships sail to, along with a specially designed commemorative Silver Muse coin. The coins are:

--A South African rand
--An Australian dollar
--A U.S. half dollar
--A Brazilian real
--An Italian euro
--A Singapore dollar
--A commemorative Antarctica trust coin
--A Silversea Silver Muse commemorative coin

From April 2017 Silver Muse will sail throughout Europe, Canada, North and South America, as well as the Caribbean, taking in over 130 destinations in 34 countries. Weighing 40,700 GRT, Silver Muse has 298 suites on board which can accommodate up to 596 guests. Silver Muse is destined to showcase the highest expression of Silversea excellence when she launches. Silversea guests can find detailed information and plans on suites and restaurants, as well as many other luxurious elements, on silvermuse.info.
