Royal Caribbean Statement: Hurricane Irma Update, Itinerary Changes & Cruise Cancellations

September 6, 2017 at 11:00 AM EDT

We are closely monitoring Hurricane Irma’s path and its potential impact to our current and upcoming sailings. Royal Caribbean’s Chief Meteorologist, James Van Fleet, is closely tracking the storm’s progress, and the current forecast is as follows:

Hurricane Irma has passed over St. Maarten, and is expected to pass over St. Thomas today and San Juan this evening through Thursday early morning. Irma is currently moving west northwest at 15 mph, and has sustained winds of 185 mph. New models are now further east bringing Irma between Miami and Bimini.

For guests on the current sailings of Oasis, Harmony, and Allure of the Seas, we have decided to delay the return of these ships until the storm has passed. Due to the unpredictability of the storm, we plan to keep all of our guests currently sailing on these ships safely out of harm’s way.

It has been crazy with all of the recent changes in the cruse schedule. We were thinking about picking up a last minute cruise just to get away from the storm. It seems like most of the cruise lines have moved from the Eastern Caribbean to the Western Caribbean. I dont mind because I prefer the Western anyway, because my favorite Port is the Cozumel Port. We always have fun doing the attractions in Cozumel. The last time we were there we did a private Cozumel tour where we got to create our own adventure throughout Cozumel. If your taking a cruise and they switched the itinerary, I would highly recommend booking a cozumel shore excursion with CozumelCruiseExcursions.Net Make sure to ask for Carlos, as he took great care of us and I promised him that I would recommend him. We like helping out the local businesses, instead of booking with the cruise lines who make the big commissions.

I pray for everyone who will be affected by this hurricane, and hope that everyone who is scheduled to take a cruise, gets to take it, but safety first.
