Yesterday marked the introduction of MSC Cruises's MS Poesia to North America and the beginning of her maiden Caribbean season.
While MSC Poesia was christened in Dover, England by Ms. Sophia Lauren in April 2008, she had a second christening of sorts as she was welcomed to Port Everglades by television icon, author, and entrepreneur Suzanne Somers. Probably best known as a star of Three’s Company, Ms. Somers remarked that being aboard MSC Poesia was serendipitous as her first published work was a collection of her poetry.
Also on hand at the celebration, and sailing this week to host the President’s Cruise, was Richard Sasso, CEO and President of MSC Cruises USA. After a welcome aboard lunch, invited guests gathered for a traditional exchange of plaques and keys between MSC Poesia’s Captain Giacomo Romano and Ms. Somers, port officials, and local dignitaries.
All the good wishes for calm seas and fair weather during her send off must have done the trick. The effects of Hurricane Ida have disappeared and passengers aboard MSC Poesia are experiencing sunny skies and smooth sailing during a day at sea. Watch for more progress as we make our way to Jamaica.
